Adaptable delivery and assignment plan

This is an instructor-developed sequence, not an institutional calendar or grade scheme. Allocate sessions to the actual term and learner preparation. Keep official dates and weights in the LMS. Time estimates in labs exclude support and capstone work.

Teaching block Core preparation and evidence Optional enrichment / selection reason
Orientation and Module 1 Foundations, Labs 1–2; configuration boundary and classification rationale Lab 10 for mixed-format curation; Alation if authorized access and an alternative are ready
Module 2 Lab 3; ERD, grain and independent data test; capstone discovery/model Lab 11 for transactional publication
Module 3 Lab 4; lineage, retirement decision and lifecycle diagram Lab 8 for deletion/hold behavior
Module 4 Required cloud/on-premises/hybrid comparison and capstone workload strategy Lab 9 for snapshot reasoning; Lab 13 for independent instances; Snowflake for cloud exploration
Module 5 Lab 5; role/action evidence and masking limits Lab 14 for TLS and credential rotation
Module 6 Lab 6; qualified monitoring memo and short governance case Lab 12 for server records; Lab 15 for deeper applicability analysis
Module 7 Lab 7; AI decision/change review and governance review/action record Revisit selected evidence to investigate a new risk
Module 8 Capstone portfolio, peer review, revision, defense and reflection Additional experiments only when they resolve a stated architectural uncertainty

Consult alignment for practical evidence an adopting syllabus may require beyond the default core. Optional availability does not satisfy a required outcome for every student; choose and communicate an assessed route for that offering.

Platform decision checklist

Before assigning Alation, Snowflake or Airflow, record authorized access, cost, expected workload, accessible evidence, cleanup and a no-cost local alternative. Use platform guidance. If product-specific competence is required, the local conceptual alternative is not equivalent execution; arrange suitable access or follow institutional approval for the revised assessment.

Feedback and calibration

Use the fictional capstone example and performance descriptors. First assess independently, then compare the evidence supporting each criterion. Give students one supported strength, one specific gap and a next action. Reserve a revision checkpoint between peer review and the final defense. Keep scores and identifying feedback private.
